I think Friendship is Magic and Star Trek have a lot in common.
Both are about a utopic yet dangerous society, which primarily focuses on peace and cooperation inside and out. Both feature a broader cast of competent yet interesting characters rather than a single protagonist, using them to tell different types/genres of stories with a healthy dose of character growth. Both have their flaws yet come out having a bigger impact on its viewers than many shows that are (objectively) better.
There are more similarities, but I think these were the more important ones.
(Also, I do exclude Star Trek: Discovery in this comparison because that series has taken a very different approach than its predecessors and thus has a different set of qualities.)
